Terry de Gunzburg founded the By Terry brand in 2000. After a star-studded career as a makeup artist working with fashion powerhouses such as YSL, Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdin, Terry blended this expertise with her background in medicine to create a line of products that fused a love for skincare with her love for makeup. Terry found that skin was too often aggravated by makeup, and that individuals often had to choose between wearing makeup or having clear skin. The By Terry brand aims to rewrite this narrative by creating skin-friendly makeup.

In 2020, the By Terry brand launched its Hyaluronic Hydra Pressed Powder. The aim of the product was simple – to mattify the skin and blur any imperfections.
